You will notice that as one sits in stillness for 7 minutes to be drawn, it enhances the notion to just transcend. A moment to take in the specail event or to just zen out!
One unique thing I do, I position the person being drawn so that they can watch the process of their portrait coming to life. This gives the person a sense of controll by being able to see what’s happening. A natural fascination surfaces from being allowed to observe. It creates a natural facial expression for me to draw from.
From experience, children love to watch, especially young artists! I also have a few games I like to play if I am drawing a wriggly one that helps me to get a few good glances to capture their portrait.
